Trail Maintenance

Maintaining a trail system is a year-round effort.  Check out all the hard work in the photos to the left.

It all starts with landowners allowing us to use their property.  Our members spend hundreds of hours clearing brush and preparing the trail for snow.  Finally, grooming operations make the trails usable.  And since groomers break, there are always repairs to be done.

Please be respectful of the people who make this possible.  Stay on the marked trail when you ride.

Trail Maps

Downloadable trail maps can be found here.

Paper maps are available at the Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry Office:  212 River Drive, Suite #2, Wausau.

You can also find maps at various businesses along the trail system.

ATVs are allowed on trails, generally 10 days after the initial opening, and only when the temperature is 28 degrees or colder.  UTVs are never allowed on Marathon County Snowmobile trails.

Please read the Marathon County Municipal Code for ATV/UTV and Snowmobile regulations.

Trail Passes

Trail passes are required for all snowmobiles riding in Wisconsin.  Without one, you may be fined.  Passes can be purchased for $30 from the DNR website, GoWild.WI.gov, at DNR offices, or at many agent locations across the state.

As a member of a snowmobile club, you're entitled to a discounted trail pass at the cost of $10.  Discounted passes must be purchased at the AWSC website, after club membership has been validated.  Click here for details.
